The Bass Flute
The bass flute in C usually has a J shaped headjoint to bring the embouchure hole in reach. It ranges on octave below the C concert flute, with a range down to the bass clef C. When it's in a flute ensemble, it doesn't compete well with other instruments in the same register like the soprano clarinet and alto sax.
