Famous Flute Players
Johann Joachim Quantz (1697-1773)
Quantz was one of the first professional flute players in the 18th-century. He began as a town musician, trained to play all instruments, he began to specialise in the flute in 1719. In 1741 he entered the service of Frederick the Great of Prussia, and remained there until his death. While he was there he composed, preformed, and made flutes for the king.
Johann George Tromlitz (1725-1805)
Johann George Tromlitz was born at Reinsdorf, near Artern, on 8 November 1725, and died in Leipzig, on 4 February 1805. In 1750. He received the degree of Imperial Public Notary at Leipzig University, and began making flutes. He made two- keyed flutes, D# and Eb.
