Cleaning a Flute
Both outside and inside of a flute needs to be cleaned. It's important to clean the inside of your flute, because you don't want your metal to corrode. It's also important to clean the outside, because you don't want your flute to look really gross and have the silver plating wear down.
For cleaning the inside, your flute should come with a cleaning rod that has a long skinny hole at the end. Buy a handkerchief or cloth at a store, pull about half of the cloth through the hole in the rod, then slide the rod and cloth through the flute a few times. Make sure the flute is in three separate pieces when you clean it, and clean each piece individually.
For cleaning the outside, it depends on how dirty it is. If your flute is really dirty, and you've never cleaned it before, you might want to hire a professional to clean it. If your flute is just a bit dirty, use a silver polishing cloth to clean it. Or, if you want, you could you the same cloth you used to clean the inside of your flute.
